Our team is seeking a Managing Editor for our physician-facing platform focused on hematologic oncology (hem/onc), Blood Cancers Today. Our ideal candidate is a talented and experienced medical writer and editor who can actively engage with an incredible team of partners and key opinion leaders, to write, assign, and edit authoritative clinical content to disperse across print and digital platforms. This is an exciting role that will interact with some of the best minds in the field, and the candidate should be incredibly organized, highly driven, and have a proven history of running a multi-platform brand. This is a remote role with occasional travel to medical conferences throughout the year.
Responsibilities:
- Lead content planning and distribution and maintain editorial calendar for the brand’s print and digital initiatives, including the print magazine, website, social media, and e-newsletters
- Oversee internal team of editors and external freelance contributors, assigning content and ensuring it meets department standards in a timely manner
- Write and edit content related to hem/onc disease states, physician profiles, feature articles, updates from major medical conferences, regulatory and FDA news, literature summaries, etc. across print and digital platforms
- Organize, conduct and promote video interviews and multi-stakeholder panel discussions with leading hem/onc providers and experts, including initial identification and outreach
- Ensure that regulatory and clinical content correctly reflects the data, messaging, and themes from other information sources and conduct fact-checking to ensure accuracy
- Regularly interface and communicate with the brand’s editorial board and society partners on content planning, editorial approvals, and brainstorming
- Schedule and conduct meetings with internal and external partners, including the preparation of pre-meeting agenda, discussion points, and post-meeting notes
- Work closely with internal departments to define and reach timelines for deliverables
- Manage the editorial review process across mediums and platforms, ensuring all input and feedback is appropriately addressed
- Work with the internal projects team on deliverables for additional hem/onc related projects
- Manage all aspects of outsourced or internal production and ensure project delivery
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures and maintenance of compliant medical writing deliverables
- Ensure that medical writing deliverables conform to AMA standards and that appropriate documented quality control checks are performed on deliverables
- Suggest or identify changes, modifications, and improvements to the processes and templates to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity
- Travel to medical conferences to provide onsite coverage, as needed
- Assist Executive Director of Communications with other editorial duties, as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in medical-related field or life science preferred
- 4+ years of relevant medical writing experience, preferably in oncology
- Experience managing the medical writing and review process
- An understanding of the drug development process
- Thorough knowledge of clinical research concepts, practices, and FDA regulations
- An ability to work independently with minimal supervision, multi-task, and work effectively to deliver on timelines
- Excellent project management skills and attention to details, with the ability to adapt to change easily
- Ability to communicate with teams to set realistic timeline expectations; monitor and communicate progress against milestones; escalate complex issues appropriately
- Excellent interpersonal, active listening, and influencing skills; maintains a professional and productive working relationship with internal and external partners. Experience conducting interviews with subject matter experts preferred.
- Must be able to travel domestically to medical conferences as needed
- Experience with online writing/posting/basic SEO and creating and deploying email newsletters (print publication experience preferred but not necessary)
- Working knowledge of content management and publishing systems (i.e., WordPress); analytics and SEO tools (i.e., Google Analytics); email software (i.e., SendGrid); medical literature databases (i.e., PubMed etc.); and social media platforms and best practices. Video editing experience preferred.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, project management software (i.e., Asana or similar)
